Student Journalists commemorate World Press Freedom Day

The Association of Student Journalists in the University of Buea (ASJUB), on Thursday May 3, 2012 joined journalists across the globe to celebrate the 17th edition of the World Press Freedom Day under the theme, “New voices, media freedom in helping to transform society’’. The event which took place at the Open Commons of the University of Buea was celebrated by ASJUB under a localized theme, “Media freedom in promoting professional ethics.” The event brought together more than 500 students and some university lecturers of the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication.

Media managers to discuss Africa’s negative image

Media managers and scholars around the world will meet in March to thrash out ways of rolling back negative perceptions hindering the continent’s ability to attract foreign direct investments. The Pan Africa media conference, which will be held on March 18-19 next year, will bring together prominent personalities in media, business, governments, civil society, and academia across the world.

United Nations Journalism Fellowships

The Dag Hammarskjöld Scholarship Fund for Journalists is now accepting applications from professional journalists from developing countries for its Fellowship Program.  The Fellowships are available to radio, television, print and web journalists, age 25 to 35, from developing countries who are interested in coming to New York to report on international affairs during the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Fellowships will begin in mid-September and extend to late November and will include the cost of travel and accommodations in New York, as well as a per diem allowance.
