The University of Buea prepares to inaugurate its latest jewel, the Professor Victor Anomah Ngu Academic Block.The academic block is named after the reputable Cameroonian professor who has a Chancellor to the University. Professor Ngu was researcher and also one time Minister of Public Health. The Professor became famous after inventing VANHIVAX, a vaccine he affirmed is an immunological solution in the treatment of HIV/AIDS. After passing his Secondary school days at the prestigious St. Joseph's College, Sasse, Buea Cameroon, he moved to the University of Ibadan (1948–1950), St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and the University of London (1951–1954). Professor of Surgery, University of Ibadan (1965–1971); Professor of Surgery, Université de Yaoundé (1971–1974); Vice Chancellor, Université de Yaoundé (1974–1982); President of the Association of African Universities (1981–1982); Minister of Public Health, Government of Cameroon (1984–1988); Director of the Cancer Research Laboratory, Université de Yaoundé (1984 - ); Founder - Hope Clinic Cameroon (1991). The University of Buea is the leading Cameroon University structured in the English Tradition of Institutions of Higher Learning. According to Vice-Chancellor Professor Nalova Lyonga, this block, designed by Architect Victor Elame, is complete with a 500-capacity amphitheater, a dozen 100-capacity lecture rooms, laboratory spaces and office rooms. A public university where tuition fee is less that US$ 100 (one hundred) per student per year, the University prides itself not only in Anglophone Cameroon as a leader in infrastructural development, but nationwide as a giant with a good value for money and a productive budget.
