Cameroon's members of parliament are expected to Vote on Friday, April 13, 2012 on a new electoral code for the country. The 80 page draft document submitted by the government of the Republic has been scrutinized in the last four days by the designated Constitutional laws parliamentary committee. The open debates on Friday will allow all members of parliament, who wish, to voice an opinion on the Bill. Members of the CPDM believe that the new electoral Code will ensure conditions are conducive to future free and fair elections. Hon. Jean Jacque Ekindi of the Progressive Movement party has had reservations on some elements of the bill in safeguarding tolerance for democratic political activity, free political campaigning and open public debate. The Social Democratic Front, SDF, has been, as expected, hostile to the contents. Today's debate will therefore provide an opportunity for open and frank debate before submitting to a vote.
