An important trade delegation from the Netherlands is in Douala to explore business possibilities in Cameroon. The delegation met with their Cameroonian counterparts at the Employers' Associations headquarters in Douala. The delegation visited and held working session with officials of the Chamber of Commerce and the seaport. The prospection mission to Cameroon began in Yaounde where they had exchanges with top government officials. One of their focus is to strengthen cooperation between the Dutch and Cameroonian chambers of commerce. The 15 man delegation was received by the Secretary General in the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development.//CRTV
Britain, France and other NATO powers are ratcheting up their military intervention in Libya. Britain said on Sunday, May 29, 2011 it was to add "bunker-busting" bombs to the arsenal its warplanes are using over Libya, a weapon it hopes will cause more destruction, terrorize Libyans and send stronger signals of NATO's superiority and potentials for mass carnage. Britain said the Enhanced Paveway III bombs, each weighing nearly a tonne and capable of penetrating the roof or wall of a reinforced building, had arrived at the Italian air base from where British warplanes fly missions over Libya."...we are certainly sending them increasingly loud messages," British Defence Secretary Liam Fox said on Sunday in a statement.

Cameroon on May 20, 2011 celebrated the 39th edition of the country’s National Day which coincides with the 50th anniversary of Reunification. The event was highlighted by military parade and civilian match past throughout the ten regions in the country. The Head of State, His Excellency President Paul Biya, Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces, Fon of Fons, Chief of Chiefs and Grand Master of National Orders was hosted at the 20th May boulevard in Yaounde. The highly colourful ceremony began in earnest in Yaounde with the arrival of the Head of state, and Cameroon's diplomatic corps. Military jets flew through the skies of the Yaounde Central boulevard to mark the start of the military parade.
Alassane Ouattara's claim to the Ivorian Presidency was crowned with an inauguration on Saturday, May 21, 2011. French President Nicolas Sarkozy, was the guest of honour, with other heads of state and dignitaries attending the ceremony in the former French colony's official capital Yamoussoukro. Ouattara singled out France and Sarkozy, who got a standing ovation, for particular praise. "It's important to be here in Ivory Coast, at the side of President Ouattara, for democracy and for Africa," Sarkozy said, speaking to reporters. As Ouattara sat on stage wrapped in an orange sash, a group of traditional chiefs from Yamoussoukro cast sand on the ground and poured libation in a ritual to appeal the ancestral spirits to give him their blessings. You've seen that everybody has said, 'Thank you, Sarko'," interjected Ouattara, as the two presidents walked to an official welcoming ceremony.
The second round of the November 28, 2010, presidential elections in Côte d'Ivoire pitted against each other two long-standing political opponents, Laurent Gbagbo and Alassane Ouattara. For this reason, and of strategic importance, it was inevitable that this electoral contest would decide the long-term future of the country. Everybody concerned should have probed very seriously the critical question: Would the 2010 elections create the conditions that would establish the basis for the best possible future for the Ivorian people? This was not done.....The 2002 rebellion in Côte d'Ivoire divided the country into two parts, with the north controlled by the rebel Forces Nouvelles, which supported Alassane Ouattara, and the south in the hands of the Gbagbo-led government. Since then, Côte d'Ivoire has had two governments, administrations, armies, and "national" leaders....
Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), long held up as a panacea for world poverty, has been an utter failure in job generating potential for the poorest countries. Economists working for UNCTAD have issued a report that voices concern over the overall lack of integration in global value chains for the least developed countries (LDCs). FDI should be invested in diversifying economies and aim to train skilled workers. Additionally, projects should focus on solving social and environmental issues, and not mere profit taking...More

Des représentants de la Commission de l'Union africaine, de l'Agence du NEPAD et des Communautés Économiques Régionales étaient présents, ainsi que des experts agricoles, des chercheurs, le secteur privé, des organisations de la société civile, des groupes agricoles et des partenaires au développement. Ils ont mis l'accent sur la responsabilité mutuelle, le renforcement des capacités et la participation des acteurs non étatiques à la formulation et à la mise en œuvre des plans d'investissement du PDDAA dans les pays.
With a booming global population and a rise in temperatures, there is an urgency to create new farming mechanisms that can meet a growing demand for food. Continuing to farm with current seed varieties that are ill-suited for changing weather patterns will contribute to rising food prices, pushing a record number of people into poverty and hunger.
