International prosecutors claim that Charles Taylor, the former Liberian president currently on trial before the Special Court for Sierra Leone, had ties with top United States policymakers during the 1990's. In order to polish his image abroad Taylor spent millions in recruiting both Democrat and Republican lobbyists to grant him access to powerful American politicians, including presidents Bill Clinton and George W.
