Encouraged by a steadily rising number of tourists, Kenya’s tourism ministry has opened offices in Russia, the Middle East, Australia and India as part of its source markets diversification programme. “The UK and the US are among our traditional source markets,” says Kenya’s Tourism Minister Najib Balala, “but we are diversifying now to Russia, Eastern and Central Europe, and also India, the Middle East and Africa itself.” An investment conference is planned for next year when the branded chains of hotels and other big tourism players will be invited to tour Kenya to identify areas of investment. “We have made every effort to showcase Kenya as one of the most premier and exotic destinations in the world and we have invested, as a government, in marketing,” reports Balala. // African Business
