CPDM trounces SDF in Election Re-run: SDF Plans to Contest Results as Usual

Figures given after vote-counting from all 361 polling stations in Douala V after partial election reruns on Sunday October 26,2008, show that the CPDM leads with 47.83% of the votes, the SDF 43.27% and the UPC 8%. With the UPC having an insignificant representation according to the results, the CPDM apparently maintains a victory while the SDF affirms it’s dominant presence at the same Council.

The SDF Littoral Provincial Chief, Jean Mitchel Nintcheu, says the main opposition party is working on making an appeal to the Supreme Court  against the election results. In reaction to the results he intimated: “ my feelings is that of anger. The population has stood behind us, and then their votes are suddenly grapped as usual. There were several cases of irregularities, such as more ballot papers for the CPDM than the number of registered voters found in some polling stations.”

As Cameroonians go through another electoral process with reruns held over the weekend, the United States Embassy in Yaounde organized a Book Presentation titled: “L’élection Présidentielle aux Etats-Unies.” In an exposé the resource person, Dr Guy Parfait Songue, a political scientist and lecturer at the Douala University, said U.S Presidential Candidates are properly schooled and the electorate adequately sensitized on the process.

Addressing a cross-section of participants comprising politicians, educationists, students and members of the civil society recently in Douala, Dr Songue elaborated that when people are sufficiently informed, they carry out their responsibilities: “If someone does not know enough about a candidate and his ability to deliver his promises, he would find it difficult to make a choice and  may prefer not to vote at all.”  In the U.S presedential race he added, “people vote for the individual and not the party.”

Dr. Ernest Molua, économiste et enseignant à l’Université de Buea, s’adressait ainsi samedi dernier à la salle de conférence du Fakoship Plazza de Buea, à plus d’une centaine de jeunes entrepreneurs représentants les ONG locales, membres des groupes d’initiatives communes, des associations de développement et autres, qui s’y étaient réunis à l’initiative du groupe « Molua international services ».

In a presentation titled: “Business Management and Entrepreneurship”, Dr Molua told ex-students of the all-female College located in Limbe, that it is important for mothers not to suppress the talents of those in their households, such as music, fashion designing, football, dancing or writing. He said business has been regarded along the years as an option for dropouts, as young people were expected to grow up and work in an office. “On the contrary,” he continued “there is no shame in business, and such talents have advanced great economies like the United States.”

Cameroon gets Tough World Cup Draw

Africa's top-ranked soccer team, Cameroon, were handed a tricky route to the 2010 World Cup after being drawn on Wednesday against Morocco, Gabon and Togo in Group A of the continent's third and final qualifying stage. The group will see Cameroon's German coach Otto Pfister pitting his wits against the Togo side which he coached through a chaotic 2006 World Cup campaign with players threatening to strike over allegedly unpaid bonuses.

La salle des actes de la mairie de Limbe 1er était prise d’assaut vendredi dernier par une foule de parents et amis venus témoigner de leur présence la cérémonie de remise de parchemins aux 71 élèves du centre de formation de la femme de Limbe, dont 3 hommes, arrivés au terme de leur formation. Une cérémonie présidée par le 1er adjoint préfectoral du Fako, qui a connu la mobilisation des autorités de la localité ainsi que des chefs d’entreprises et promoteurs d’emploi.

Faisant le point sur les difficultés qu’ils rencontrent, les conseillers du sud-ouest ont été invités à faire sentir leur effectivité dans les lycées et autres collèges.

« Les conseillers d’orientation restent peu connus des élèves et même des autres enseignants et autres responsables et chefs d’établissement dans les lycée s et collèges ». C’est le constat qui a été ressorti lors de la rencontre des conseillers d’orientation de la province du sud-ouest qui se sont réunis pendant deux jours à la salle de conférence du lycée classique de Limbe la semaine dernière, à la faveur d’un séminaire de renforcement des capacités.
