Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister presides over seminar on cooperative

Cameroon's Vice Prime Minister, Minister of agriculture, Jean Kuete has chaired the opening ceremony of a three day national seminar on the role of the cooperative sector in the fight against poverty in Cameroon. During the ceremony that was organized in Bafoussam, Jean Kuete said a new national policy on cooperative is being designed in Cameroon.
He called upon stakeholders of the sector to take advantage of this new policy to effectively improve upon the living standards of Cameroonians.
The Vice Prime Minister also used the occasion to officially launch activities marking the 50th anniversary of the Union of Agricultural Cooperative Association of the West Province.
Meanwhile, the Secretary General at the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Jean Claude Eko Akoafane has chaired a meeting to review the 2008 World Development Report on Agriculture.
The report which is published by the World Bank provides guidelines to government and the International community, on designing and implementing policies to spur growth, overcome poverty and ensure food security.
The Secretary General identified the lack of resources as the main impediment to the development of agriculture in the country but appealed to experts in the sector to exploit the document and complement government’s efforts in the domain.//CRTV
