It is common to hear people talk about Common Initiative Groups and Non-Governmental Organisations and their activities. For a very long time to come, the staff and students of Christ the King College (CKC) Tiko will live to talk about Rotary Club of Tiko and Limbe, whose main objective is to fight poverty and improve on the living standards of people worldwide. The Club has just made donations worth US$18,000, which includes among others things, solar ovens, bowls, pots, baking pans, propane cylinders and other kitchen utensils to that college.
During the handing over ceremony that took place on the college campus, the President of Rotary Club Tiko, Mr Felix Akoh Besong said, the donation is to better the feeding condition of the students. He explained that, the club pools its resources from its members and sympathisers and they contribute their talent to help serve communities in need. Mr Akoh added that, it was for this reason that the Rotary Club of Tiko sought for a grant from the Rotary Foundation in Naperville, USA.
Mr Akoh used the opportunity to call on Government officials to institute measures that will facilitate clearing process in the Customs Services. This he said will make things easier for donors and the beneficiaries.
Meanwhile, the president of Rotary Club Limbe, Mr John Ndakwa urged the students and administration to utilise the equipment and handled them with care.
Speaking on behalf of the administration and the entire student body, the principal Rev. Sr Mary Kombe thanked the Rotary Club for their kind gesture. She promised to make good use of the donated items which she described as coming at a time when the college needs them the most. Rev. Sr Kombe challenged other associations and the inhabitants of Tiko in general to come to the assistance of the college. The Principal went further to point out that the institution needs among others classrooms, playground and vehicles for easy transportation.
On their part, the students of CKC, Tiko expressed delight to have such modern kitchen equipment. The female senior prefect of the college, Ms Juliet Enow said she feels privileged to be a student of a college which has caught the favour of the community in general and the Rotary Club in particular. While another student Ms Linda Nkongho called on Rotary Club’s Members never to relent in their efforts, and prayed that many more of such associations should be created.
Also present at the occasion was the Divisional Officer for Tiko and other members of the public. Rotary Club Tiko is a branch of the Rotary Foundation in Naperville, USA. The Foundation which has branches in one hundred and sixty six countries, have as members, professional and business persons world wide. It renders humanitarian services, encourages high ethical standards in all vocations and promotes world peace.
