Going For Tougher Challenges

A six person delegation representing the Cameroon Athletic Team has arrived in Dallas, Texas to compete in an International Marathon taking place on Sunday April 1, 2007. The delegation includes Januarius Bonkiyung the 2007/2006 Mount Cameroon race champion, Immaculate Wirngo 2006 Mount Cameroon race female champion, Nadeche Wirnka 2007 Mount Cameroon race junior female champion, Francis Yenka a former Mount Cameroon race runner-up and Mr. Edward Lailam Team Manager of the Milano Kumbo Sports Academy.
The Cameroon Athletic Team’s participation in this Marathon was arranged by Dallas Business Executive Mr. Geoffrey Mbaku. While in Dallas, the athletes will be competing under the umbrella of the Cameroon Athletic Federation and the Ministry of Sports and Physical Education.
The Dallas Marathon which attracts champion runners from around the world is a 42 kilometers race that starts and ends on the historic grounds of the great State Fair of Texas in Downtown Dallas.
This race gives the Cameroonian Athletes an opportunity to qualify for the Boston Marathon, Tokyo Marathon, Madrid, London and other bigger races around the world. It also gives them a chance to compete against experienced international runners from Kenya, Tanzania, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria and other countries who have dominated world marathon events for many years.
RESULTS
The results of the 26 miles race is as follows:
1. Januarius Bonkiyung 1st, Overall Winner.
2. Nadeche Wirnkar came in 2nd, in the Half Marathon
3. Immaculate Wirngo came in 2nd in the full 26 miles female catergory.
4. Francis Yenka Njeije finished the 26 miles marathon in 3hrs 45 minutes.(He developed muscle cramps after the 10th mile point but managed to make it to the finish line.)
