The government of Cameroon and AES-SONEL have amended the 2001 concession agreement on the privatized company to enable AES-SONEL carry out investments in Cameroon’s energy sector towards constructing some 600 new projects in the next 15 years. The amended concession agreement was signed in Yaounde on Monday, March 12, 2007 by the Minister of Energy and Water, Jean Bernard Sindeu, the Minister Delegate in Charge of Programmes in the Ministry of the Economy and Finance, Daniel Njankouo Lamere and Director general of AES-SONEL, Jean David Bile. This was followed by the signing of the new financial convention worth 170 billion CFA francs representing a loan from donor agencies to AES-SONEL for the financing of 50.000 new electricity connections in the country each year over the next 15 years. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of Energy and Water, Jean Bernard Sindeu said government’s commitment to the AES-SONEL investment package is in line with the national agenda to improve energy production for domestic and industrial purposes.
