By Tayu Innocent in Bamenda Militants of the ruling CPDM party have promised to win all the parliamentary and council seats in the North West Province. This declaration was made during a recent party seminar held in Bamenda. Present at the seminar amongst other participants were; the Governor of the North West Province, Kumpa Issa, Sali Dairou, leader of the CPDM Central Committee Delegation, a cross section of some CPDM bigwigs of the North West Province.
Welcoming the participants on behalf of the Mezam CPDM, the Government Delegate, Mr. Tazong Albert Ndeh thanked the organizers for choosing Bamenda to host this seminar, which was long overdue. He said this is the moment for stocktaking, militants should therefore burry their grudges and blackmailing of one another.
Participants agreed to think and work like brothers and sisters in the political arena, as 'one hand cannot tie a bundle.' Taking the floor, Mr. Fonka Azu’u presented a paper on "The Respective Role of local party leaders and Resource Persons". In his paper, he urged local party leaders and resource persons to carry out their functions and duties in accordance with the rules and regulations binding the party.
The next presentation was that of Mme. Hama Tutu Muna entitled "Women participation in the Election Process". In it, she urged men to assist women in politics so that they can also prove their worth. She also underscored the fact that women as voters play a very crucial role in the electoral process. They should therefore occupy elective positions and this can only be done when they; present their candidacy for elective positions.
Then came the turn of Dr. Peter Abety who briefed the participants on a paper entitled "Preparing and participating in Elections". He used three words, which to him should be the guiding principles for preparing and participating in elections. These words are: God, Commitment and Sacrifice.
According to him no matter the effort you put in doing a thing you must first of all call on God, commit yourself to what you want to achieve and then sacrifice some resources towards attaining the objective. Pa Achidi Achu took turn to remind North Westerners that the time has come for them to select God fearing, sympathetic and non-violent leaders who shall be interested only on the political, social and economic development of the province. He further used his usual saying "politics na njangi" to urge militants to support Paul Biya if they; want any development in the North West Province.
Mr. Nsahlai Shadrack dwelled on the peace reigning in Cameroon quoting from Mathew 5:9 (happy are the peaceable, since they will be called sons of Goda0). He went further to remind the militants that President Paul Biya is himself a peacemaker. This he continued can be judged from his skillful handling of the Bakassi crisis and also his relationship with international Organizations such as the common wealth and many others.
Briefing participants on the role of the youths in preparing and ensuring victory in Elections, Mr. Fru Jonathan quoted from Abdualai Watts Speech "Tell me what youths you have and I will tell you what people you shall be". By this According to him, youths are supposed to be trained now to carry out their civic duties in order to build a better nation tomorrow. He further said that the youths should be committed and loyal to the party and should also ensure peace before and after the elections.
Mr Sali Dairou, leader of the central committee delegation shared the experience he had in his own municipality. He gave the strategies and statistics they used up North to grab the councils and seats from the NUDP. He therefore used this opportunity to encourage his party militants in the North West Province not to loose hope and that they should use the rich knowledge from this seminar to educate the grass root militants so that the CPDM can once more regain it’s firm grip in the North West Province which to him is the "spiritual and political capital of Cameroon". Mr. Sali Dairou further urged political party leaders to be reconciliatory so as to have majority in the next coming elections.
Concluding the seminar, participants agreed: (i) To keep the door open to their brothers of the SDF and denounce mob justice, taking into consideration the fact that comrade Paul Biya who gave the go-ahead to multipartism, promotes and encourages dialogue. (ii) Participants resolved to bring out a new orientation for the party by spelling out the roles of the game to the grass root citizens. (iii) They acknowledged the fact that this was the moment to repay the damaged property, the time to regain respect and what was lost. (iv) And most important participants aimed at reexamining strategies and political methodologies before descending to the grass roots where voters are found in order to prepare them fully for the next coming elections.
In sum, CPDM militants in the North West Province are quite confident that their aims and visions are going to come true taking into consideration the recent crises in the SDF that has left SDF militants with divided thoughts pushing most of them to take refuge in the CPDM Party. Any way, let’s keep our fingers crossed.
